Some Montessori schools are embracing kid-tracking devices. Wildflower Schools, a network of small, teacher-led Montessori schools founded in 2014, track where the kids go, who they interact with, and how long they engage with materials, but the technology has had its share of problems.

Nursery apps are in use in many preschools, sharing updates, photographs and undeniable reassurance with parents throughout the day. But taking it one step further with Fitbit-style tracking and live video capture could add additional points of attack for a hacker, potentially increasing risk beyond benefit. There are enough stories out there about hackers gaining access to security cameras and home hubs to cause concern here, not to mention these so-called child safety smart devices themselves.
